The Ascension of Christ

Early 14th century
North tympanum, St. Peter's Cathedral, Regensburg, Germany

In the shallow space allowed by the tympanum the sculptor has substituted a broad cloth for the usual mandorla, but he keeps most of the iconography identified with mandorla Ascensions: the book, blessing hand, the angels who do the lifting.
